New Car Sales
- July 2026 recorded 103,656 new car sales in Australia, as reported by VFACTS.
- New car sales increased by 1% compared to July 2025.
- Sales fell across most states, with NT experiencing the largest drop at -9% YoY.
- Electric sales saw a sharp rise by +157% YoY in July 2026.
- Petrol sales plummeted by -25% YoY, while PHEV vehicle sales surged by +119% YoY in July 2026.





New Car Sales Trends
The top 5 models with the greatest increases so far in 2026 are:
- BYD Sealion 7 (+9,881 units)
- Omoda Jaecoo J5 (+7,767 units)
- Zeekr 7X (+7,424 units)
- BYD Atto 2 (+6,615 units)
- Geely EX5 (+6,455 units)
The bottom 5 models with the greatest decreases so far in 2026 are:
- Toyota RAV4 (-7,334 units)
- Toyota Prado (-6,738 units)
- Mitsubishi ASX (-6,386 units)
- Toyota Landcruiser PU/CC (-4,256 units)
- GWM Cannon 4X4 (-3,414 units)
The top segment increases so far in 2026 compared to 2025 are:
- People Movers > $70K (+43%)
- SUV Medium > $65K (+38%)
- Medium < $60K (+37%)
- Sports > $200K (+18%)
- SUV Medium < $65K (+17%)
Conversely, some of the largest decreases are:
- Light Buses < 20 Seats (-81%)
- Upper Large > $100K (-37%)
- Light Buses => 20 Seats (-35%)
- Sports < $90K (-35%)
- Large > $70K (-26%)




Sales by Import Country
- Sales of imported vehicles from China continue to rise with an increase of 86,997 units compared to 2025
- Sales of imported vehicles from India have made quite an impression in July 2026 with an increase of 771 units compared to 2025
- Sales of imported vehicles from Japan seeing the largest decrease of 47,230 units compared to 2025
- Sales of imported European vehicles continue to see declines
